When your camper attends Summer Day Camp at the Y, they aren't just walking away with new friends and skills, they are taking with them a newfound confidence in themselves and a lifetime of summer memories! From songs and games to character development and friendships, summer day camp at the Y has something for everyone!  At YMCA of Northern Utah Summer Day Camp, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and enriching experience for all campers. As a large group program, our staffing structure and camper-to-staff ratios do not allow for one-on-one care. We recognize that every child is unique, and we want to ensure that all campers receive the support they need to have a positive and successful experience. If your child requires one-on-one assistance, we encourage you to reach out to us—we’d love to explore potential alternative resources or accommodations that may better meet their needs. Thank you for your understanding and for being part of our Y community. We look forward to an amazing summer of fun, learning, and adventure!

MEET OUR STAFF

Summer Day Camp Director

Ashley Ballew

Ashley Ballew is the Director of Day Camps, overseeing summer programming across several locations in Northern Utah, including Ogden, Salt Lake City, and Park City. She holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Ecology from the University of Georgia and brings a strong foundation in education, environmental science, and youth engagement to her role. Before stepping into this position, Ashley worked with the YMCA’s afterschool programs in the Weber Region for over two years. During that time, she helped build an incredible team and developed programs that offer students a safe place to learn, grow, and have fun. Prior to joining the Y, Ashley served as a teacher naturalist at the Ogden Nature Center, where she led summer camps, field trips, homeschool programs, and iSEE programs, and even secured a large grant to build a butterfly house to source larvae to classrooms statewide for educational purposes. Ashley is passionate about creating inclusive, engaging environments where youth can explore new experiences and build lasting friendships. She is especially proud of her work designing curriculum and program structures that balance safety with meaningful engagement. Her dedication was recognized with the Rising Star Award from the Y. In her new role, Ashley is excited to work with a wonderful team to offer children a great summer experience where they can be safe, have fun, and grow. Outside of work, she enjoys being outdoors with her family and dogs, Kira and Toad.

Park City Day Camp Director

Bailee Doman

When Bailee was a kid, summer camp was her safe place. From the time she was old enough to attend to when she became a staff member, she never missed a year of summer camp. She moved to Missoula to complete a bachelor’s degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management at the University of Montana. This expanded her love for nature and the outdoors. When in college she worked as a counselor and wilderness guide for a summer camp on Flathead Lake. For the last four summers she has spent her time traveling around the west as a hiking and nature guide for adults and families in eight different National Parks. She is passionate about educating children in outdoor spaces and spreading the love of nature to everyone she meets. She loves hiking, canoeing, road-tripping, camping, backpacking, and exploring hidden places in the world. Her favorite places include the forests of Montana and Utah’s southwest deserts. When she is not outdoors, she loves cooking, board games, and reading!

Candice Sakach

Hi! My name is Candice, and I’m from Orange County, California. I have my Child Development Associate (CDA) in Infants and Toddlers and have worked in childcare for over 10 years. Growing up, I spent many years volunteering at Boy Scout and Girl Scout Day camps, which helped shape my love for working with children.  I’ve been with the Y for over two years, and this will be my third summer at the Y—I’m so excited! Wednesdays are my favorite because that’s when we get to be extra wacky. When the weather is warm, you’ll usually find me hiking, especially if there’s a chance to spot old cars along the trail. I’m a proud mom of two girls and a stepmom to a son and a daughter, and this summer I’m thrilled to be becoming a grandma to my first grandchild! In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym, doing my own nails, and playing darts.

Layton Day Camp Director

Montse de Jesus Millan

My name is Montse De Jesus-Millan, I was born in Mexico City, but have lived most of my life in Utah. I’m bilingual and love learning about different cultures, traditions, and languages. I’ve worked with children and youth for over 20 years and have been with the YMCA for almost four years. I truly love being part of the Y and having the opportunity to make a positive difference in our community. I have my Child Development Associate (CDA) in Preschool and attended Weber State University for Early Childhood Education. I’m especially excited for all the fun activities, new experiences, and amazing memories we’ll create together this summer!
A few fun facts about me: I have a cat who is turning 16 this year and a turtle. I love music, love to sing, spending time with my loved ones, and doing charity work. I can’t wait for a fantastic summer together!

TRADITIONAL CAMP

5 - 12 years old | TAYLORSVILLE, OGDEN, DAVIS, PARK CITY

Our Traditional Camp for ages 5-12 is a summer filled with discovery, friendship, and growth. Here, kids unplug from screens and dive into outdoor adventures, creative projects, and skill-building games that foster confidence and social skills. Each day, they gather for lively assemblies with songs, skits, and camper celebrations, creating a vibrant community spirit. Guided by the YMCA’s core values, campers practice Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, building character alongside friendships. Our camp also integrates STEAM activities, sparking curiosity in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Weekly field trips and/or special guest experiences ensure fresh excitement. Our dedicated staff go beyond childcare, offering mentorship and purposeful programming for a summer that leaves lasting memories and skills.

ADVENTURE CAMP

8 - 12 years old | PARK CITY

Adventure Camp for ages 8-12 offers an elevated experience where kids combine the thrill of exploration with invaluable life skills beyond those of a traditional day camp. Weekly field trips to destinations around Park City and beyond give campers hands-on opportunities to uncover Utah’s history, connect with nature, and build friendships through shared adventures. With activities like swimming, escape rooms, ninja and parkour gyms, scenic hikes, museum visits, and career discovery experiences, Adventure Camp takes kids out of their comfort zones and deepens their connection to Utah’s landscapes and culture.

What sets Adventure Camp apart is its focus on outdoor skills and personal growth, balanced with a strong emphasis on safety and support. Guided by fully engaged staff trained in safety protocols, campers build resilience and confidence through activities like geocaching, survival skills, and even interactions with special guests from local outdoor organizations. Each day, social and emotional growth is fostered through teamwork and activities that encourage empathy, leadership, and conflict resolution. With regular updates for parents and a commitment to creating an enriching experience, Adventure Camp offers a summer of growth, discovery, and unforgettable memories, making it much more than a program—it’s an investment in lifelong skills.
