SOLITUDE JR. INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM

The YMCA Junior Instructors Skiing & Snowboarding Training program was created to help build a bridge for skilled teen skiers and snowboarders to begin making their way into the ski industry as junior instructors. In completing this program, participants are eligible to work for ski resorts teaching others how to ski or snowboard! At the end of this program, participants will receive their Jr. Instructor certificate which is a nationally recognized certificate from the PSIA/AASI.

This program is comprised of three phases:

  1. Participants will attend an in-person introduction to the online course with the Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors. This course introduction will be supplemented with an in-person Introduction to Youth Development training with the YMCA.

  2. Participants will work on the slopes with Solitude Instructors to learn the hard and soft skills required to be a junior instructor.

  3. Participants will work with beginner YMCA youth to practice all they have learned!

This program is designed for 15 to 17 year olds who can ski/snowboard at an intermediate level or higher. To be eligible for this program, participants must have the following hard skills on skis or a snowboard:

  • Must have the ability to maneuver safely in a learning area and around all surface lifts at an area or resort or up/down hills and trails.
