Salt Lake County Y I SKI Program

Slide into Winter Sports with Y I Ski

Together with the National Winter Sports Education Foundation, our goal is to "Elev8 the Lives, Health, and Fitness of youth through winter sports."

Programs

Alpine Ski and Snowboard:

The YMCA Alpine program allows students to choose between snowboarding and skiing at a beginner or intermediate level. Alpine students learn the sport of snowboarding and skiing downhill from a ski-lift.

  • Solitude Mountain Resort
  • Beginner and Intermediate Options Available
  • Sundays 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (except March 31st is on a Saturday)
  • Transportation, lift tickets, rental equipment, goggles (only for first time participants in Y I Ski program), and helmets included
  • For ages 7 - 17

Fly like an Eagle:

This new program is only available for those who have participated before in the YMCA's Learn to Ski and allows them to take the next step in bettering their skills and participate in Solitude's Fly like an Eagle program. This would serve as a graduation program from the YMCA ski programs. Attendees learn intermediate to advanced skiing and riding skills with kids of similar age and ability groups, learn to handle different snow conditions and terrain, and make new friends!

Pick-Up/Drop-off Location
We have collaborated with UTA to take their Ski Bus (Route 972) that they offer from Salt Lake directly to Solitude Ski Resort. We will no longer be meeting at the YMCA Community Family Center in Taylorsville. We will meet at the UTA Midvale Fort Union Station on 7250 South 180 West, Salt Lake City, UT 84047.

The bus departs at 8:39am so please do not be late. All parent's must arrive by 8:20am at the very latest. The bus will return to the same location at 4:30pm. Parent's who arrive late will be responsible for driving their youth to the resort themselves.

The YMCA Freestyle Program gives ski students with intermediate level skills the opportunity to practice new ski skills like moguls and slopestyle events on a state of the art Olympic course. Students must be able to perform several skills before entering the Freestyle Program.

  • Transportation and lift tickets included (if students don't have their own equipment the YMCA will assist in finding them donated equipment)
