Margaret's Y Story

Margaret is a foster child who had the opportunity through our Financial Assistance Program to attend Camp Roger for the first time this year. She was so excited to attend camp but also nervous. When she arrived, she was shy and was afraid she wouldn’t fit in or make friends. In the first couple of days, she was able to connect with some of the girls in her cabin, but she still felt a bit shy. To try and seem “cooler” to the other campers, she started acting out in order to get attention. After coaching  from her cabin counselors, Margaret realized that she didn’t need to be “cooler” to get people to like her, people liked her just the way she is. Margaret loved camp and during her second week, her counselors were amazed at the change in her behavior.
