YMCA Summer Day Camp Opens in South Jordan

July 18, 2018

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (May 24, 2018) – At the end of the summer, families want to hear their child had “the best summer ever.” To help make that happen, the YMCA of Northern Utah is partnering with LiveDAYBREAK to bring the Y’s Summer Day Camp to the South Jordan community. YMCA Summer Day Camp offers youth fun and unique experiences with an opportunity to explore the outdoors, meet new friends, discover new interests and create memories that last a lifetime.

YMCA Summer Day Camp at Daybreak offers six week-long sessions hosted at two local organizations – the Early Light Academy and the Daybreak Community Center. With weekly themes, kids are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in topics that most intrigue their interests such as outdoor adventure, theater, cooking, art, and STEM. Interactive activities, daily opportunities for skill development, hands on projects and fun excursions into the community will also be offered to ensure kids are learning and having fun.

Summer is the ideal time for kids to get up, get out and explore. But for some kids, summer means no access to recreational and educational activities to help them learn, grow and thrive during out-of-school time. As a result, some kids can experience learning loss and gain weight twice as fast than during the school year. Attending YMCA Summer Day Camp is a wonderful opportunity for kids to keep their minds and bodies active.

“It’s imperative that kids stay engaged socially, physically and academically throughout the summer. Summer camp is a wonderful way to ensure that,” says Sarah Ivory, YMCA of Northern Utah’s Salt Lake County Director. “In our day camp, kids are in a welcoming environment where they can belong. They’re building relationships, developing character and discovering their potential. We really encourage parents to give their kids the gift of camp to keep them active and engaged all summer long.”

The YMCA of Northern Utah has been a leader in providing summer camps in Utah for 70 years. In addition to South Jordan, YMCA Summer Day Camp is offered in Taylorsville, Layton, Ogden, Heber City and Park City plus two overnight camps, YMCA Camp Roger and YMCA Mill Hollow, located in the beautiful Wasatch National Forest.

As a thank you to the families joining the Y at Summer Day Camp in our first year in South Jordan, the Y is offering a referral bonus of $20 for every family you refer that registers for camp, so spread the word! Once your friends and neighbors complete their enrollment, just ask them to send us an email at cfc@ymcautah.org with the subject line "Daybreak Referral" telling us you sent them and we'll add a $20 credit to your account balance!

To ensure that all youth have the chance to experience camp, the Y offers financial assistance to those in need. If you’re interested in helping send kids to camp this summer, you may donate to the Y at ymcautah.org/givenow.  Families can save even more when they refer a friend.
